Razgatlıoğlu made history with his second World Championship title

2024 was a remarkable year for Toprak Razgatlıoğlu and BMW as the Turkish rider claimed his second Superbike World Championship title, which also marked BMW’s first-ever success in the series. Riding for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team, Razgatlıoğlu secured 18 race victories, including a record-breaking 13 in a row, crowning his first season with the M 1000 RR in style.

“The second title feels even sweeter”
Razgatlıoğlu sealed his World Championship victory during the first race in Jerez, finishing second behind Nicolo Bulega. After his first title in 2021 with Yamaha, he became BMW’s first WorldSBK champion. “This has been an incredible season. My first title was for my father, but this one is for myself. It’s a very special feeling to achieve this with BMW,” said Razgatlıoğlu.

“Nobody believed in BMW – but now everyone is proud”
Razgatlıoğlu’s decision to switch from Yamaha’s competitive package to BMW surprised many. “When I signed with BMW, everyone thought I was crazy. They said it was the wrong decision. Even my brother didn’t believe in it. But we worked hard, and now everyone is proud. This title isn’t just mine; it belongs to the whole team,” he stated.

Records and comebacks
At the start of the season, Razgatlıoğlu dominated, winning two races in Barcelona and securing four consecutive hat-tricks, totaling 13 victories. However, a severe crash at Magny-Cours resulted in pneumothorax, forcing him to miss two race weekends. “The doctors said it would be dangerous to return, but I managed to race again at Aragon and maintain my lead in the championship,” he recounted.

Recognition for Bulega
The championship was decided during the final race weekend, with a close battle between Razgatlıoğlu and rookie sensation Bulega. Although Bulega finished second overall, Razgatlıoğlu acknowledged the Italian’s talent. “He had an incredible year, and I’m convinced he’ll be the next World Champion,” said Razgatlıoğlu.

The 2024 season was a historic year for Razgatlıoğlu and BMW, showcasing that with hard work and dedication, any challenge can be overcome.
